Elan GT6 Explorer is OUT
A year after our announcement, the Elan GT6 Explorer, also known as the GT6 X, is set to debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024. Previously, we had only computer-generated images and a list of features to anticipate. Now, with the production of the prototype finished and more yachts being built, real images, videos, and even virtual tours are available. Attendees of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 in September will have the opportunity to see the yacht in person.
The GT6 Explorer builds on the platform of the multiple award-winning Elan GT6, a 49-foot grand turismo yacht designed by the powerhouse trio: Studio F. A. Porsche, Humphreys Yacht Design, and, of course, us - Elan. As Elan’s flagship, the GT6 combines luxury, balanced naval architecture, and bold design. Originally designed as a shorthanded Mediterranean mid-range fast cruiser, it has proven to be an ideal foundation for the long-cruise or blue-water variant, now known as the Explorer. While maintaining the core architecture, materials, and layout, the yacht has been upgraded in four critical areas: safety, seakeeping abilities, autonomy, and offshore living.
The original GT6 already offers a unique experience on the water, featuring a flush forward deck, impeccable woodwork, a luxurious interior, and smart, seaworthy naval architecture. The modifications to the Explorer version elevate the already capable yacht to new heights, enhancing its performance and living conditions for extended voyages and should present itself as an attractive option for budding ocean explorers.
Key enhancements of the Explorer include the advanced 3D VAIL hull, which increases stiffness and enhances the hull’s mechanical properties. Watertight bulkheads offer protection against water ingress in the event of a collision. The strengthened deck and hull-deck joint enable the installation of a staysail forestay. A sturdy cockpit arch, combined with a dodger and bimini, shields the yacht from the elements. Interior modifications support easier onboard living during passages, including lee cloth installation mounts, inclusion of a washing mashine and dishwasher, and integrated grabrails throughout the yacht. Additionally, the yacht can be equipped with a powerful solar array producing 1187 Wp, which charges 840 Ah worth of LiIon batteries, sufficient to power a 100 L/h watermaker along with all other consumers, except the air conditioning.
